For 1 Serving(s)
Coffee
3 tbsp | Coffee (medium to fine grind) |
2 cups | Cold water |
2 tbsp | Cold water to settle the grounds |
Optional
2 tbsp | 18% Coffee Cream |
2 tbsp | Coffee Mate (instead of actual cream) |
2 packets | Sugar Twin (or other sweetner of choice) |
Trail Cowboy Coffee Directions
- In a kettle (small pot), bring 16 fl oz (2 cups) water to a boil over a Trangia stove, camp fuel stove, twig stove, or campfire.
- Remove from heat and stir in 16g (about 2 heaping tbsp) Kicking Horse Grizzly Claw medium roast coffee grounds (regular to fine grind) and give a quick stir.
- Bring it back to a boil for a minute and then take it off heat for 2 minutes with a quick gentle stir and then let sit another 2 minutes to steep.
- Sprinkle 2 tbsp cold water over the surface to settle the grounds to the bottom.
- Pour slowly into a mug, leaving most ground behind.
- Serve hot and enjoy the stout, rustic brew. Optional: Add 1-2 tbsp 18% coffee cream and add a couple packets of Sugar Twin (or sweetener of choice) to taste.
Recipe Notes
- Adjust coffee grounds (12-20g) based on preference—16g is what I use, but for a stout (stronger) coffee, use more grounds or less for a milder flavour.
- Cold water (2 tbsp) settles grounds for 16 fl oz—scale up/down with water volume, but keep it minimal to retain heat.
- Pack grounds in a sealed bag; pre-measure 16g for ease. Cream and sweetener optional—carry in packets or skip for black coffee.
- Works with any heat source—Trangia, camp stove, twig stove, or campfire—stir carefully over open flames.
- If you're adventurous, try making the coffee by eliminating the cold water part but let your coffee sit in the kettle for 5 minutes and then "gently" pour your coffee into your mug.
