For 1 Serving(s)
Burger
| 6 oz | Ground beef, regular |
| 1/4 tsp | Salt |
| 1/4 tsp | Pepper |
| 1 tsp | Fresh Rosemary |
Bun & Toppings
| 1 | Large Kaiser bun |
| 4 tbsp | Sweet Green Relish |
| 1 slice | Beefsteak Tomato |
| 1 leaf | Green Leaf Lettuce |
Peanut Butter Burger Directions
- Season 6 oz ground beef with 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, and minced fresh rosemary. Form into a patty that is as wide as your bun.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat (camp stove or fire). Cook the patty for 3-4 minutes per side until nearly done to your liking.
- Place 1 oz aged cheddar cheese on the patty during the last minute of cooking to melt. Remove patty and let rest for 2 minutes.
- In the same skillet, add 4 tbsp natural peanut butter (e.g., Adam’s) and stir for 30-60 seconds over low heat until softened and absorbing some of the burger bits. Remove from heat.
- Toast a large Kaiser bun in the skillet or over the fire for 1-2 minutes until golden.
- Spread 2 tbsp sweet green relish on the bottom bun and 2 tbsp on the top bun. Place the patty on the bottom bun, spoon the warm peanut butter over it, then add 1 slice of beefsteak tomato and 1 leaf green leaf lettuce.
- Top with the bun and serve hot.
Recipe Notes
- Use green leaf lettuce for best flavor; swap for iceberg if hiking long distances to avoid bruising—iceberg holds up better in packs.
- Best for campsites with a cooler or camper fridge due to fresh beef, cheese, lettuce, and tomato; winter hiking works too, as cold temps act as a natural refrigerator.
- Natural peanut butter (like Adam’s) adds pure flavor—pack in a leak-proof container to prevent oil separation.
- Toast the bun lightly to avoid sogginess from relish and peanut butter.

16 May 2025I first thought this was an odd hamburger to have because of peanut butter. This sounded gross, but when I tried it, it was shockingly delicious. The only thing I would make sure of is that the cheddar cheese is fully melted on the beef patty. For a campsite, having fries with this would be ideal!
