Dehydrated Peas Directions
Dried peas work well in soups, rice dishes, ramen-style meals, couscous recipes, and trail skillet meals where fast-rehydration vegetables are useful.
This recipe explains how to dehydrate frozen green peas, so they store reliably and rehydrate predictably for backcountry cooking.
Step 1:
Spread frozen green peas directly onto dehydrator trays in a single layer. Do not thaw before drying.

Step 2:
Dry at 125°F (52°C).

Step 3:
Dry for approximately 5 hours until the peas become hard and fully dry throughout.
Step 4:
Check doneness by allowing several peas to cool. Properly dried peas should feel firm and brittle with no internal softness when bitten.
Step 5:
Allow the peas to cool completely before packaging to prevent condensation during storage.
Step 6:
Store in airtight containers or vacuum-sealed bags until needed.
